what sort of training for older players to try and slow down their decline?

Generally speaking, if you want a slow or delayed decline in a player, you need to prepare for it long in advance. It's affected by natural fitness and professionalism. Pretty hard to change the personality of a 32 year old, and boosting their natural fitness by that point probably won't yield much success. But, if you have an endurance session every week, in 10 years you might have some younger players that can last into their 40s.
