While being hammered in the local cup semi-final by the leader team of the league(same draw every year) one thing crossed through my mind.

A dozens of discussions are on the internet about people managing a top team and for some annoying reason they get hammered by relegation positioned teams. There are always answers pointing to tactics, complacency , the opposite being in a fighter mindset, etc.

I'm just wondering, is there anyone who managed a relegation candidate team and hammered without any problem a top team.(by top team I mean the fist 3-4 on the league table)?

I have gotten the Middlesbrough job, got promoted to the EPL and managed to cause a few problems to the top clubs sometimes. I've stayed for 9 years and the club is now at European places rising from mid table anonymity. Mostly playing 4-2-3-1 with a cautious mentality. I never managed to beat Haaland's Manchester City though, I think I had something of 14 defeats or more maybe. Got a conference too winning against Dortmund which has fantastic players.
