  1. Just wondering if Pep has to constantly deal with players complaining daily about training? I've heard it's absolutely rife amongst professional football clubs.

Too much quickness, not enough quickness, too much strength, not enough strength, wants more technical attacking training......

I've got a player whose morale is poor because there is too much quickness training when non has been scheduled nor is there anything in the future scheduled.

I honestly think this will be my last FM.  It simply isn't fun any more.

What answer you are looking for?

I think he is pointing out yet another potential anomaly in the game. All my young players are given the “fringe player” role when loan bids come in, unless I change it to something else - not sure if it’s by design but it is frustrating I agree.

  3. I've just completed my fourth season with Leicester City, finishing 3rd for the second season in a row. However, I have just won the champions league, beating PSG in the easiest final I have ever had in FM history. I won 1-0 thanks to a 22nd minute goal - but they didn't come at me at all, it was quite surreal. They had 3 shots and they were all off target.  It was just so so comfortable.

During a torrid run of form towards the end of the season where I was scraping 1-0 wins and constantly drawing 0-0 without creating a thing, I managed to beat Liverpool 4-2 at home in the ECL semi final, which completely went against everything that was happening to me domestically.

I went into the ECL final on a run of 1 win in 5, that being against Liverpool in the semi final.

So what I don't get is, where my team pulled those performances from, during a dire run of inconsistent, creating zero type form.

Sounds like while you're (overall if not consistently) able to handle the tactical approach/squad selection/squad building aspect of it to attain results you have a huge weakness when it comes to managing personnel. If you can't manage your players then they're ultimately going to look to get away from you.

Thanks for that pal, really helpful 👍🏼

  5. For the love of god, whatever it is, turn it down man!

5 first team regulars transfer listed due to me rejecting pathetic bids for them - 3 SQUAD players on the loan list as they want more football and 1 squad player sold for the same reason.

I’m challenging for honours on multiple fronts but it seems most of my squad would rather be elsewhere. Morale is high and always has been during these requests.

This is yet another factor that really is affecting the enjoyment of this game, along with the mid season form slumps and last 10 minute comebacks  to name but a few.

4 players in 1 week asking to go on loan. I am top of the league after 12 games with 32 goals scored. Why oh why is there no option for me to to tell this backup AMC that he's not in the team cos the starting AMC is running riot at the moment. Instead I just have to say yeah I'll loan you out or tell him to shut up and get on with it. Player interactions are just boring and quite frankly shambolic. Players should come to you with requests to play if their competitor in that position has been poor, if they've been training well or if they are doing well in U23 footy etc.

Yep I’ve had this too. Lost both James Maddison and Dewsbury-Hall during January because of this. Tried to reason with them but it sent them mental and disrupted the whole squad. Had to demote them both to u23’s, ruining my squad depth and push for the title in the process.

I’ve never known an FM with so many flaws and anomalies.

It's been mentioned many times before - the ME doesn't (and can't) distinguish between human and AI. It's a massive (2-3 million lines of code) calculator, essentially. If you're having issues, but the AI isn't, it's down to something you're doing.

Your screenshot shows that you're not creating good chances on average, whereas they are.

Have a look at this screenshot:

    b7b6e77aa1b5d9604506c6ef34834b3b.png

As it is every season for me, I can match the best teams for conversion rates. Not only that, my xG for is only 22.18 but I have scored 30 goals, so I'm over performing there as well.

My own aim is to average 0.1 xG per shot, minimum. Anything above that is great. Anything below that, and I'm not creating good enough chances, so then I analyse my chances and my tactic, including player selection.

Right so how do lesser teams always create better chances than the human managed side, game in, game out? It happens over and over again - is the AI better at finding “gaps” and weaknesses in our tactics?

This happens to me a lot and while the stats say I haven’t had a “clear cut chance” I beg to differ. I have endless one v ones that are put horribly wide or straight at a rubbish gk - these never go down as a clear cut chance but surely they are exactly that. I hit the woodwork several times a game frequently too, when it seems easier to score. Again, apparently not clear cut chances.

The AI is capable of pin point accuracy when it comes to crosses, for example, rubbish sides deliver better balls than any of my world class players ever do. It’s unbalanced, it has to be - and that fella’s screenshot isn’t a one-off!

I stopped playing exactly because of this, played a match on 4-3-3 and got a draw in the last minute because of a perfect longball. Learned my lesson, grab 3 defenders now, one dropping to cover, and reduced my line of defense, even then somehow in 4 different games they managed to put a ball in my CD back, and I wondered, how?

So, I decided to watch matches on full to understand how this was happening, and then an old problem: Players don't actually obey your instructions. Even giving direct instructions for them to stay back and protect their backs, somehow an ST always managed to get the best on them, they would miss a header, he would outrun them, for some unknown reason they would simply let him grab the ball and pass through them, and reminding, I am not talking about Messi's or Neymar's, I'm talking about average attackers.

The problem with this FM is the same old problem from other FM's, the refusal to look on the tactical side of the game, and then we have the mess that they call a "simulation", where players can't obey their orders, even when you beg them. It is frustrating watching matches because of this, it is so hard to get a desired pattern, and even when you found it, it goes on for just 3-5 matches, and them seems like your team "dis-learn" it.

And before people come here saying "it's your tactic", I win games, even more that I should, it is just that is frustrating that a game that call itself a simulation can't replicate what real managers applies to their teams consistently, FM nowadays is basically, grab good players, an attacker tactic, and win games. People say FM and FIFA are super different, nowadays I see the same pattern, same games every year, with a formula to win, it is not fun anymore.

The last sentence here, I couldn’t have put it better myself. I have found myself completely disillusioned with the last 2 FM’s for this exact reason.

I won everything possible with my Milan team, which was my Beta save. The first couple of seasons were dreadful to watch as I built my squad, constantly changing tactics and save scumming time figure out what was going on - I eventually built a world class squad and I believe I only won everything, and had my first ever FM invincible season, due to my players ability rather than my tactical genius.

The game is becoming overly complicated and predictable, as you say.

I’m sure they’ve turned Liverpool up even higher in the update too! Winning 7/8/9-0 every week.

  9. For me this is the worst FM I’ve ever played, and I picked it up in 2011.

Although I finished 3rd in my 2nd season with Leicester, and ran the top 2 fairly close, the whole season was horrendous.

Constantly having to change and tweak tactics depending on the opposition (yet they never change for me seemingly).  Constantly being pegged back in the last 10 minutes of games despite being 2 or 3 up.  Constantly conceding to deep throw ins and set pieces late in games regardless of my set up and training.  You cannot play the same team two games running if in European competitions and the fixture pile ups are a joke, not to mention random international call ups on the eve of important games.  I could go on and on.

I want to stop playing I really do, but I keep thinking I’ll figure it out soon and it never happens.

I’ve read the guides etc. but feel they’re now out of date with FM22, personally.

Granted I don’t want it to be easy but some of what occurs in game is laughable.  The behaviour of the ME at times makes me want to smash my laptop up.

This game becomes much more enjoyable when you stop taking the match engine at face value. Ultimately, FM is text-based and all the calculations are done underneath what we see, the match itself is just a layer on top trying to give us something to watch. Putting too much faith into what it shows you graphically can lead to a lot of frustration, especially if you take things like defenders doing ridiculous stuff, or strikers missing what the game makes look like the impossible, too seriously.

Ah the good old days of CM97, just watching the bar waiting for a goal, how I miss them.

  11. I find it hugely inconsistent myself. However, I’ve had some amazing saves, for example I created a completely made up tactic with Palace that won me the champions league in 5/6 seasons but I could not finish higher than 4th in the league no matter what I did.

I’ve currently got a save going with Leicester that is driving me mad! I cannot get a consistent run going with a tactic and have changed over and over again - despite this I’ve finished top 4 two seasons running thanks to a late good run of form (for me its no coincidence that it coincides with being knocked out of every cup so I can train properly and play the same team).

i guess it’s as inconsistent as football genuinely is, unless you’re Liverpool or Man City.

I do think the late comebacks need turning down a tad mind you 😜

  12. Thanks for the responses, much appreciated.

Any league. Reason I ask is, I seem to constantly have to play the top sides/ rival teams in a row. Season after season.

I’ve managed in Germany, England, Italy and Greece and every season all of the big guns come in a row. So was wondering how it is generated.

I don’t use the pre-game editor by the way.
